Press Release: Madison Park Development Corporation to Cut Ribbon at 9 Williams Street in Roxbury

February 6, 2018 – Roxbury, MA- Madison Park Development Corporation (MPDC) is excited to announce the ribbon-cutting ceremony for 9 Williams Street, 30-units of mixed income housing in a historic renovation of the former Tropical Foods supermarket located in Roxbury’s Dudley Square. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 2101 Washington Street. In addition to project partners, Mayor Martin Walsh and local elected officials are scheduled to offer remarks regarding 9 Williams Street and assist with the ribbon-cutting.

“We’re thrilled to provide new affordable and energy efficient rental homes for a wide variety of families and individuals drawn to Dudley Square,” said Jeanne Pinado, MPDC’s Chief Executive Officer. “The apartments feature huge windows with lots of natural light, high ceilings, hardwood floors, bike storage and community space. This investment will continue to spur economic activity while addressing the need for more quality affordable housing in Boston.”

Originally built in 1915, 9 Williams Street is an historic adaptive re-use of a commercial building that now features 21 affordable housing and 9 market rate rental homes along with 7,000SF of ground commercial space. It’s the second phase of the Parcel 10 development complementing the relocation and expansion of the Tropical Foods supermarket, a third-generation family-owned grocery business that has been in operation in Roxbury for over 50 years and opened its new location in 2014.

Financing for 9 Williams Street was provided by MassDevelopment, Commonwealth of Massachusetts MassWorks and Brownsfields grant programs, Eastern Bank, Red Stone Equity Partners, TD Bank and MassHousing.

“MassDevelopment is pleased once again to support Madison Park’s work, as the organization’s redevelopment of Tropical Parcel 10 has been transformative for the neighborhood,” said MassDevelopment Senior Vice President of Community Development David Bancroft. “Congratulations to Madison Park and its residents on the opening of these apartments, which provide a much needed variety of housing units in Boston.”

“Eastern Bank is proud to support the work of Madison Park once again,” said Eastern Bank Senior Vice President Gary Leach. “Massachusetts is fortunate to have strong experienced community development corporations like Madison Park. Supporting their development efforts is a key priority for Eastern Bank.”
