In Boston Real Estate Times: NEI General Contracting Completes Whittier Choice Neighborhood Phase 1A

The Whittier Choice Neighborhoods Initiative (CNI) is a collaboration between POAH, Madison Park Development Corporation, and the Boston Housing Authority to redevelop the Whittier Street Apartments site in Roxbury. When complete, the site will be fully redeveloped with over 350 units of mixed-income housing and commercial space. In addition to housing and safer streets, part of the vision is to promote family self-sufficiency by providing better access to quality education and job opportunities while using the community’s strengths to preserve its character.

In the Boston Globe: For affordable rental housing in Allston-Brighton, a waiting list of 17,000

Amid a housing crunch and a rental market upended by COVID-19, lengthy queues for affordable housing continue in Boston, with one organization that owns 500 residential units in Allston and Brighton seeing its waitlist top an eye-popping 17,000.

More than half of the units owned by the Allston-Brighton Community Development Corporation have rental subsidies and on average the income for its households would be considered “the low-end of low income,” said John Woods, the organization’s executive director.

Woods recently confirmed the wait-list queue, and said that natural turnover that occurs with market-rate housing doesn’t happen with the type of housing his organization offers, which is the major driving factor for the length of the list.

IN SAMPAN: Mayor Walsh announces largest-ever affordable housing funding awards

Building on his commitment to create and preserve affordable housing in Boston, Mayor Martin J. Walsh announced $69.2 million in new and recommended funding from the Department of Neighborhood Development, the Neighborhood Housing Trust, and the Community Preservation Fund to create and preserve 1,097 units of housing in Brighton, Chinatown, Dorchester, East Boston, Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, Roslindale, Roxbury and West Roxbury.

On Universal Hub: 20 affordable condos approved on Dudley Street in Roxbury

The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved a non-profit’s plans for a four-story, 20-unit condo building at 75-81 Dudley St. at Guild Row in Nubian Square.
