The Summer Youth Employment Program (S.Y.E.P) hosted their closeout event on Friday, August 17 with an exciting bonanza displaying all the highlights and accomplishments of the summer. The event culminated what the youth learned over 6 weeks, which included mock trials, dance performances, healthy food demos and spoken word techniques. Additionally, the restaurant and hospitality group greeted and served the patrons as they enjoyed the festivities.
MPDC’s Youth Workforce Team, also known as “W.A.Y”, capped off the summer youth employment season with over 70 youth employed in 35 employment sites. Youth were placed in meaningful summer jobs in government, nonprofit, and private sector organizations. During their six weeks of employment, between July and August, Boston youth ages 14 – 19 attended professional and personal development trainings twice a week at the
Dewitt Center. During the duration of the program the W.A.Y team witnessed the shy express themselves loud and strong, the voiceless speak with unimaginable conviction and the left footers master complex dances. It was truly an summer to remember!
In the coming weeks, the Youth Workforce Team will be preparing for the next round of programming during the school year, the After-school Employment (AYEP) and Out of School Employment (OYEP) Programs. For more information contact Youth Workforce Manager, Yhinny Matos at
