MPDC senior residents talk with Mayor Walsh during recent visit

02.01.2017

Over 40 seniors from Madison Park Village filled the Haynes House community room for a breakfast with Mayor Marty Walsh and the Boston Elderly Commission yesterday morning. Engaged residents listened as Mayor Walsh touched on pressing issues facing our community, including recent executive orders from President Trump aimed at immigrants living in the country illegally. He was applauded when he discussed how Boston will remain true to American values of welcoming immigrants. Senior residents also learned that Mayor Walsh is working with a bi-partisan group of mayors from around the country to block attempts by the Trump administration to withhold funds to “sanctuary cities.” Boston receives $500 million in federal funds, a little more than half goes to Boston Housing Authority and rental subsidies, like Section 8, that MPDC properties and residents rely on.

Yesterday’s event was organized in partnership with the City of Boston Commission on Affairs of the Elderly. A special thank you to our Community Action, Civic Engagement and Real Estate teams for all their hard work and involvement to make this event a success.
